Synagogue Reopening March 2022

As the province counts down to lifting COVID-19 restrictions, Congregation Shaarey Zedek is taking a staged approach to reopening in the interest of the health and safety of congregants, volunteers, clergy, and staff.

Effective Wednesday, March 16, Shaarey Zedek will reopen for in-person Social-Cultural Programs, Adult Education, Life Cycle Events, Private Functions, and Services with some limitations and exceptions:

  • Immunization Card and Government-Issued Photo ID must be presented by adults entering the building. We will accept parental confirmation of immunization for teens and children that do not have Immunization Cards since these are not widely available for younger demographic. (Modified 2022-03-18 Note: Children Ages 4 and under are not eligible for vaccination in Manitoba, but are welcome to attend Shaarey Zedek programs and services.)
  • Masks must be worn, even when seated, until further notice.
  • Room capacity limits are in affect to ensure appropriate physical distancing for those who wish to do so.
  • Morning Kiddush Breakfast and Shabbat Morning Kiddush Luncheon will not be offered until Manitoba COVID-19 test positivity rate drops below 10% consistently, with the exception that kiddush for simchas and meals of consolation will continue to be offered.
  • Shabbat Morning In-Person Services will be launched to the general public on April 2. Saturday morning services in March are pre-booked for B’nai Mitzvahs and their guests which take up seating capacity (Max 180).
  • The Office has been open to the public for the last number of months. the office is open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Friday (Closing at 3:00 PM Fridays for Shabbat). Reach out to us – we’re here to help! 204-452-3711 or hello@szwinnipeg.ca.
  • If you are not feeling well for any reason, we ask that you please stay home and contact Health Links at 204-788-8200 to determine the need for a COVID-19 test, and to also help reduce the spread of the cold, flu, and other viruses to others.

Upcoming opportunities to join us in-person beginning Wednesday, March 16 include:

  • Megillah Reading – Wednesday, March 16 beginning at 6:45 PM. Check-in anytime between 6:30 PM and no later than 7:15 PM. Visit www.szwinnipeg.ca/MEGILLAH
  • Daily Minyan – In-person services in the Chapel twice daily with our clergy team. Check-in will begin 15-minutes before the service and will end 15-minutes after the service has started. Registration is NOT required to attend. Capacity limit of 20 people.

  • Kabbalat Shabbat Service – each Friday at 5:30 PM with Rabbi Anibal Mass, and the first Friday of each Month with Leslie Emery on Guitar. Check-in begins at 5:15 PM and ends at 5:45 PM.   • Congregational Seder and Pesach Lunches in April – stay tuned for details.
  • Playgroup for Families in April – stay tuned for details.
  • The Sisterhood Judaica Gift Shop will continue to be open by appointment only until further notice. Please Contact sisterhood@szwinnipeg.ca or leave a message at 204-975-3487 to set up an appointment to shop at the Sisterhood Judaica Gift Shop.
  • Bookings are being accepted for Brit Milah and Baby Namings, Weddings, Luncheons, Dinners, Parties, Visiting Speakers, Conferences, and other occasions.
