Sisterhood // About Us

Sisterhood // About Us

Shaarey Zedek Sisterhood has been affiliated with Womens League for Conservative Judaism (WLCJ) for 95 years, since March of 1930.  We have been an active part of the Shaarey Zedek family for nearly 100 years, and continue to be an integral part of the synagogue.

The Sisterhood offers women of all ages the opportunity to come together to socialize, work on special projects and learn through programs such as the annual Interfaith Luncheon held in the spring of each year, the book club, the very popular tallit weaving program, Sisterhood Shabbat, the Mitzvah Group who sponsors entertainment and refreshments at the Simkin Centre for Chanukah and Mother’s Day, and a variety of social and educational programs.

Through our Torah Fund campaign, we raise money for and awareness of the institutions that train our clergy and lay leaders – the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York, the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles, the Schechter Institute in Jerusalem, the Seminario Rabbinico Latinoamericano in Buenos Aires, and the Abraham J. Heschel Seminary in Potsdam, Germany.

Sisterhood also runs the beautiful Judaica Shop on the lower level of the synagogue.

Locally, we are proud to support Willow Place and Jewish Child & Family Services in addition to the Shaarey Zedek congregation.

The Sisterhood has made a number of donations to the synagogue over the years. These include a substantial donation to the L'Dor va Dor Campaign, and siddurim and puppets for the Family Service.
