Judaism: A Space Odyssey

Monday, 28 June, 2021 18 Tammuz 5781

7:30 PM - 9:00 PMOnline

The view of the Earth emphasizes everything we know about Tikun Olam when we look at what Carl Sagan so eloquently described as “the pale blue dot.” As our bodies try to adapt, our minds turn to God.

533 people have traveled to space and reached altitudes of low-Earth-orbit or beyond…
14 of these adventurers were Jews who set out on a journey that challenged them to adapt physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

What does Halakha have to say for living in space? When is Shabbat? When are the holidays?

This talk describes the space environment as it relates to Halakha and opens up a dialogue on some of the challenges we face as humans continue to explore the universe.
