8:30 PM
Guest speaker and Limmud presenter: Shlomo Weinish, PHD in Organizational Sociology from Haifa University on the topic 'Local Government in Israel as a Vehicle for Social Change'.

You must be registered for the dinner in order to attend.

Topic Description: The last three years of the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of the local government in the day-to-day life of much of the Israeli population. During this time, it became clear how difficult it is for the national government to handle local issues – and how powerful local government could be in handling complex situations such as these. On the other hand, the local government suffers from a damaged public image, mainly based on numerous cases of mayors and local officials being found guilty of corruption. The way to improve that image is by leading value-based programs for mayors and officials at the national level, leading to a value-based change in Israel. (Congregation Shaarey Zedek is a proud to be among the community supporters of Limmud Winnipeg 2023. Learn more: www.limmudwinnipeg.org)

About the Speaker: In his capacity as the CEO of Kolot, Shlomo combines the two areas in which he has garnered vast experience over the past 25 years: local government leadership and Jewish identity. His doctorate explored leadership development with an emphasis on models from the area of sports. Before his work in Kolot, he owned a strategy and organizational development consulting firm. Since 1998, he has been active in Jewish communal development, both in a volunteer capacity and as a JAFI emissary in Minneapolis. Shlomo is married with three children and lives in the village of Ramat Yishai in northern Israel.
