Winnipeg playwright & author, Primrose Madayag Knazan, writes from a Filipinx-Canadian, Jewish, and woman’s perspective. She won the 2021 Canadian Jewish Playwright’s Competition, with her play, Precipice. Her plays have been featured at Winnipeg Jewish Theatre (reading of Precipice at the So Nu? festival), Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre (Where.Are.You.From.); Sarasvati Production’s FemFest (Wildflowers & Wallflowers; Breast Milk, Best Milk); Carlos Bulosan/Theatre Amihan’s Tales from the Flip Side Filipino-Canadian playwright’s festival in Toronto (Then Comes Marriage); as well as numerous plays at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival where she was a three-time Best of Fest winner. Her plays Shades of Brown and Two Browns Don’t Make a White have been published by Scirocco Drama and Playwrights Canada Press. Her first novel, Lessons in Fusion, was published by Great Plains Publications under their Yellow Dog imprint and has been nominated for several literary awards including the Manitoba Book Awards for Best First Book and Young Peoples categories, the Manitoba Young Reader’s Choice Award, and the Willow Awards Saskatchewan Young Reader’s Choice Award. Primrose is also a freelance food writer and a content creator and social media influencer promoting Manitoba restaurants, artisan products, and culinary events as @pegonaplate on Instagram and TikTok. She is proud mother of two mestizo Filipinx-Ashkenazi Jewish boys.
