Congregation Shaarey Zedek is seeking a visionary educator, to become the Director of our new childcare centre. This new leading-edge Jewish learning program will support children to become confident, capable, and excited about Judaism and Jewish learning. Our new Director of Childcare will possess creativity, passion, and strong leadership skills to promote a safe and nurturing setting where every child, teacher and family is treated with dignity and respect. Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements child-centered curriculum that will provide developmentally appropriate opportunities for children to learn and socialize together incorporating Jewish values and traditions into everyday learning.
  • Prepares, implements, and monitors the Childcare Centre’s annual budget through effective financial management and planning.
  • Executes all aspects of personnel management, including but not limited to recruitment, hiring, supervising, work planning, evaluating and discipline.
  • Oversees the physical environment of all the programs, including indoor and outdoor space configuration and choices related to supplies, and materials and upholding the cleanliness.
  • Oversees all health and safety aspects including but not limited to child abuse protocol,  incident & accident documentation, fire and safety  procedures both for on-site and for field trips.
  • Exhibits respectful fair, honest, supportive, and positive behaviours in all interactions with parents and families, including welcoming children and families into early childhood programming and appreciating diversity among all community members.
  • Imparts leadership through scheduling, training, coaching, feedback, and guidance to effectively develop the team.
  • Develops, fosters, and maintains collaborative partnerships with community partners.
  • Communicates effectively with all stakeholders including children, parents, licensing representatives, community partners, leadership, and staff team.
  • Ensures compliance with all childcare licensing agencies  
  • Develops and facilitates events for family engagement
  • Works collaboratively with other synagogue departments and community organizations to allow for continuity of Jewish life for children and families
  • Maintains and completes all necessary reports and records.
  • Reviews and revises existing policies and aids in the development of new policies as required to ensure that the centre follows all of the licensing regulations set forth by the Province of Manitoba.

Requirements:

  • ECE III Classification
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a Centre Director role or relevant role with demonstrated ability to deliver programs and services.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check, Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Current certification in CPR/first aid level C – Completion within Three Months of Hire
  • Excellent knowledge base of Jewish culture, values, and traditions
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher
  • Proof of Covid or any other required vaccines

  • Demonstrated knowledge of various stages of social, emotional, and intellectual development of young children
  • Broad knowledge of childcare licensing and government regulations
  • Self motivated and ability to complete tasks independently
  • Established experience working with children of all ages
  • Previous supervisory experience in a childcare setting.
  • Well-developed program development and management
  • Experience in incorporating Jewish holidays, culture, customs impactfully into children’s activities and learning
